When the Corona crisis forced Denmark into lock-down, discounted Tuborg Foundation a pool for initiatives that would ensure digital social communities for young people. This led to the launch of the Block Labs project together with the Sketch & Scratch Association.
The result was an online learning platform and digital community where young people across the country can find tutorials and workshops in dance, rap, scratch and graffiti, attend live-streamed concerts and find exciting podcasts.

Block Labs came into being in response to the increased loneliness that the first months of lockdown of the Corona crisis had as a consequence. But even before the outbreak of the pandemic, young people between 16 and 29 years old were the age group in Denmark with the most feeling lonely, and figures from the Danish Health Agency show that approximately 120,000 young Danes often or always feel lonely.
In Block Cast, Nicklas Bertelsen along with Rune Rim have been hosts on a podcast series. While in the other labs you can develop your creative skills, BlockCast a breathing hole where you just have to listen and fully get into the lives of people who are suffering from loneliness and mental disorders.
“We chose the theme because people feel extra lonely during the Corona crisis, but also because loneliness is an extremely taboo subject,” explains Nicklas Bertelsen: “Few will admit that they know about it for fear of further exclusion and stigma. As a culture, we find it hugely shameful to talk about, even though in our fast-paced, individualistic and digitised world it is becoming an increasingly widespread phenomenon. “
