HUMAN RIGHTS AND ACTIVISM

[.white]“Human rights are not something you are given — they are something you have to fight for.” [.white]

[.white] What is activism? Do human rights apply to everyone? And how can you use your voice to bring about social change in society? Get answers to those questions and more with a presentation by award-winning human rights advocate, [.white] [.white] Manilla Ghafuri [.white] [.white]. [.white]

[.white] Manilla Ghafuri fled Afghanistan to Denmark in the late 90s along with her six siblings, mother and father. Their escape on foot became the start of a lifelong struggle for human rights, both nationally and globally. Through 10 years of activism, she has used her personal narrative as part of the struggle for justice and representation. Receiving the Human Rights Award and a powerful platform, Manilla Ghafuri conveys complex narratives about escape, identity, everyday challenges, society's lack of diversity and how you as a citizen can engage to create positive change. [.white]

[.white] Her presentations create reflection and motivate action — always with a deep understanding of the individual destiny behind the big issues. [.white]
